   build and capture -- observed live in the session, quotes below) ==

Command (guest, /bin/sh via vm.sh run_root):
  cd /usr/src && make nativekernel KERNCONF=X86_64_GENERIC -j6

Notes:
  * first attempt `make buildkernel` refused: "You must buildworld before
    buildkernel" (snapshot has no built world) -> used nativekernel target
    with the installed toolchain, as make itself suggests.
  * build ran ~8 minutes on 6 vCPU; compile-line count observed mid-build:
    4060 lines at T+5m, 4299 lines at completion; last observed compile
    unit before link: netproto/802_11/wlan_xauth/ieee80211_xauth.c.
  * final line observed: "BUILD_EXIT=0".
  * install: cd /usr/src && make installkernel KERNCONF=X86_64_GENERIC
    (stock kernel preserved as /boot/kernel.STOCK).

Resulting kernel (still on the guest disk, hashes from fixsrc.txt):
